OpenAI has reportedly agreed to acquire Glass Imaging, a small computational-photography startup, in a deal valued at more than $300 million, according to a report from PetaPixel published this week. Neither company has publicly confirmed the transaction.
Glass Imaging was founded by former Apple camera engineers to build what it calls a Neural ISP, an AI-driven image processing pipeline designed to improve photo quality on smartphones without the bulkier optics used by traditional camera systems. The startup had previously been valued at roughly $100 million, meaning the reported price marks a significant jump.
The acquisition, if confirmed, would be OpenAI's second major move into hardware and imaging technology this year, following its roughly $6.5 billion purchase of Jony Ive's device startio earlier in 2026. Analysts say the pattern points toward OpenAI building toward a consumer hardware product that leans heavily on AI-processed imaging rather than conventional camera hardware.
